FAQ

DonDay Biewers FAQ

Q: Who runs DonDay Biewers?
A: DonDay Biewers is run by Donna Hannity in Enumclaw, Washington. Donna has decades of experience in dog breeding and is deeply committed to upholding Biewer breed standards.

Q: What makes DonDay Biewers unique?
A: Donna performs genetic diversity testing through UC Davis, ensures OFA, CERF, and parentage DNA certifications on breeding stock, and raises her Biewers as part of the family rather than kennel dogs.

2. The Biewer Breed

Q: Why choose a Biewer Terrier?
A: Biewer Terriers typically weigh 4–8 lb, have stable temperaments, are intelligent, hypoallergenic (hair, not fur), low-shedding, and generally live up to 15 years. They do well with kids and other pets, and adapt well to apartments.

Q: What health tests do breeding dogs have?
A: All breeding dogs are tested for genetic diseases (e.g. patella luxation, eye disease), parentage DNA, and undergo UC Davis Genetic Diversity testing.

3. Puppies & Litters

Q: Are there puppies currently available?
A: As of late 2024, DonDay Biewers welcomed the Fan and Trips litter on September 25, 2024. For current litters, please contact DonDay directly by phone or email—photos are available upon request.

Q: How do I reserve a puppy?
A: Contact DonDay to express interest; a deposit may be required to hold a puppy. Full details including availability, pictures, and payment will be provided during communication.

4. Puppy Care & Health Essentials

Q: What health care do puppies receive before going home?
A: Puppies typically receive three rounds of DAPPv + CV vaccinations (at 6, 8, and 10 weeks), a Bordetella intranasal vaccine at 4 weeks, deworming, and are microchipped at 6–7 weeks.

Q: Are puppies microchipped?
A: Yes—all puppies are microchipped with the number noted in their contract and vet records. Buyers must register the chip with AKC Reunite if not provided.

Q: How much will my puppy weigh as an adult?
A: Most reach about 6 lb. A rough estimate is doubling the puppy’s 6-week weight twice—as an example, 1.5 lb at 6 weeks becomes ~6 lb adult weight. Breed standard is 4 – 8 lb; there aren’t “teacup” or “mini” variants.

5. Grooming & Lifestyle

Q: How much grooming does a Biewer Terrier need?
A: If kept in full show coat, grooming can be high-maintenance. Most pet owners opt for a “puppy cut,” which requires brushing twice a week and professional grooming every 6 weeks.

Q: Do Biewer Terriers shed?
A: No—they have a hair coat (like humans), not fur. They are considered hypoallergenic and produce fewer allergens.

6. Socialization & Temperament

Q: Are Biewers good with children and other pets?
A: Yes—they are known for being gentle, friendly, and sociable. They’re not vocal or high-strung, making them excellent companions. Many serve as therapy dogs.

Q: Can they cope with time alone?
A: They bond closely with their humans and can develop separation anxiety if left alone long periods. Early socialization is recommended.

7. Purchasing & Guarantee

Q: What’s included when I buy a puppy?
A: Puppies go home with veterinary records, microchip details, some food, travel items, and lifetime support from the breeder. Specific included items may vary—check with DonDay.

Q: Is a health guarantee provided?
A: Yes—a written contract includes a guarantee for life-threatening congenital or hereditary conditions. Conditions apply (e.g. proper spay/neuter, diet, and return policy).

8. Shows & Recognition

Q: Has DonDay Biewers won any awards?
A: DonDay produced GCH Advance Gift Snow Avalanche, one of the first Biewers showcased by AKC at the Westminster Dog Show in 2021. Gift was featured in promotional material and even had a statue for the breed.
